I love blue. I'm a girl and I just love blue! I don't care what room it's in - kitchen, living room, nursery - doesn't matter! I love blue and I have never been the type of person to think blue is for boys and pink is for girls. So I decorate in shades of blue. And you know what? It's so calming and peaceful and relaxing. And when friends come over, they always say it's like coming to the spa. I love that! What a nice compliment! So I have decorated this house with touches of blue throughout. Along with white, tan (light khaki color), gray and touches of black accents. I absolutely love living in a light & bright space. It just makes for happy days!! So I tend to use dark colors - like black - very sparingly and as more of an accent throughout. So in this house, most rooms have some sort of black accent - be it picture frames, a rug, candles, the wood on chairs & sofas or in the bedding. There's a little touch of black to pull it all together. And I repeat most of the same colors throughout the entire house. So here is a break down of the formal living room decor. Ethan Allen - Devonshire Swivel GliderWhen I saw these chairs in the show room I HAD to have them. And this cute fabric is very coastal and very much my style. These chairs aren't so heavy that you need two people to move them around. I can easily slide them around to vacuum or rearrange furniture. They are super soft and comfortable - the back cushion part is so fluffy! And they go full circle around, they glide back & forth, they rock.... they are amazing. Ethan Allen makes these chairs completely customizable - which is a VERY nice feature. Ethan Allen - Brant ChairThese chairs are a fun coastal type of chair as well. The wood armrest and detailing are what make it feel coastal to me. And I love that the black wood doesn't overpower the white chair cushions. It's the perfect touch of coastal elegance I wanted in the formal living room. These chairs are completely customizable from wood color to fabric. Here is another look at the formal living room with all four chairs together. I love a formal living room that isn't too stuffy or fancy but yet has a bit of glam and elegance. And I think these chairs mixed with everything else in the room, are perfect for a formal living room. However, you could easily have these as your every day chairs in your family room or the gliders in a nursery. They're so versatile. It just depends on the look you're going for. Sanctuary Home Furnishings by Renaissance - Coffee Table and Side TablesI really adore this set of tables. They aren't a super dark wood color and they actually have kind of a grayish color to them. They're very pretty, and again, really hit that coastal vibe I like. The store that these were purchased from was called Renaissance Furniture. Then they moved locations and became Sanctuary Home Furnishings by Renaissance... I believe they are still the same store. They are kind of like Costco or Home Goods though when it comes to finding items you like. You have to buy it RIGHT THEN because tomorrow it will be gone and they rarely have them back in stock. It's like one & done. So I have never ever found these exact same coffee tables and side tables before - and people ALWAYS comment on them. So sorry about that. However, I always love LOTS of items in the Renaissance store and most have a similar vibe to these. I can always go in that store and find something I'd love to have! Extras - AccessoriesThis black basket I found at the store called At Home. This store actually used to be called Garden Ridge Pottery back in the day when I lived in San Antonio, Texas. And at the time, there was no other location other than Texas. Then a few years ago they opened up in Arizona. Then they changed their name from Garden Ridge Pottery to At Home. And this year, they opened up locations in California. It was like a little peice of Texas was following me. Love that. And this black basket actually comes in three sizes - small, medium and large. I have the medium and large ones. And again, I love how it gives a little touch of black to the room but is in no way over powering. I like to keep extra throw blankets and pillows in the large basket I keep in the formal living room. This large one cost $24.99 and is not heavy at all. You can easily move it around with one hand. The white candle is actually part of a set that was purchased from Costco. Each candle is in a different color glass and smells fabulous! It's one of those items that again - when you see it.... YOU MUST BUY IT THEN... I haven't seen them in the store or online since. The photo frame is a set from Costco as well and I belive they always have these frames on hand. I've seen them in the store MANY times and have a bunch of them throughout the house. The lamp is also from Costco and is a set of two lamps. Again, I have not seen these particular ones in the store since. The blue curtains are from IKEA and I buy most of my curtains from them. It's the only place I have found with good quality curtains that are 92 inches or longer - for a decent price. If you try and find 92 inch curtains at Bed Bath and Beyond..... you're looking at paying a hefty price for one set. So when I found the curtain section at IKEA, I got hooked. They have such good lengths and great prices. And SO many colors to choose from!! The curatin rods themselves (and extension poles) ARE from Bed Bath & Beyond though! The round mirrored tray is from Home Goods and adds just a little touch of femininity and glamour to the room without being overly in your face. I don't like it when a home is overly feminine or masculine. Too much one way is such a turn off. I like a nice mix of the two. So I keep this tray here and change out the seasonal items. Right now, I have these faux silk flowers from Home Goods, a Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla candle from Bath & Body Works and a set of handmade drink coasters that were a gift from family. The Walls, Trim Work & ChandelierThe paint color on the main part of the house is Behr Paint in the color Aged Beige. This was purchased from Home Depot. The trim work - picture frame molding - was also purchased from Home Depot. Below is the exact wood used from Home Depot. The paint color for all of the trim work throughout the house is Behr Pure White. The carpet in the room is from MAC Flooring and they always do SUCH an incredible job and are so nice to work with. The carpet in this room is Soft Dimensions II and it's in the color 919 Autumn Fog. ![]() The chandelier is from The Lighting Gallery. This was not in the store but it was in one of their MANY catalogs. The employees are very good at finding you what you want. This chandelier fits perfectly in the room and is just the right style - with that added touch of black accent. That concludes the Formal Living Room Tour and details. I hope this gives you inspiration or ideas for your next project.
